  1. I had always found Twellman rather annoying and irritating during his earlier days of covering the USMNT but now he's calmer and more likelable, and even wiser, when talking about football

  2. I get giving Greg Berhalter credit for this. He took a young and inexperienced squad through qualifying and to the World Cup. But let's not fool ourselves here. The players themselves got these results, not because of Greg or the the USSFA. This is the most talent we've had and only the bare minimum was achieved. Greg's tactics are poor and his roster selection is a mixed bag. Well coached nations with inferior talent like El Salvador and Costa Rica can easily figure out what he wants to do in the attack. And as far as rosters that he's selected, he picks the obvious choices like Pulisic, Mckennie, Dest, Weah, Aaronson etc but it's the last few spots that have us fans scratching our heads. Instead of players that are getting good minutes in Europe like Scally, Sargent, Pefok, Carter-Vickers, Brooks, he routinely takes deadass options from the MLS like Zardes, Arriola, Roldan, Morris, Ferreira, etc and seems to always give these inferior options minutes in big games.

Greg will undoubtedly be our coach for the 2022 World Cup, but if we want to make something big happen in 2026 then we need a better coach than a mediocre MLS option like him.

  3. As a Mexican I’m rooting for USA to be world class or have a 3 World Cup generational squad. The rest of concacaf can continue to park the bus to get a cheap goal and hope for a result.. in short watching the World Cup at home.
You know how you play with hate against Mexico? do that the full 14 games and your country should qualify.

  4. Twellman is a hypocrite. We still have the problems of mediocrity. We were last to qualify by goal differential. It’s very telling that he’s not mad about the qualifying process only because we qualified. We only had 1 away win and probably don’t deserve to be in the World Cup.

  5. I’m glad USA qualified for the WC in Qatar but the game in Costa Rica confirmed my suspicion Zack Sucks, I’m sure Matt would’ve stopped those two goals but Stiffens oops! I meant Steffens being one of Gregg’s favorites had to screw it up!!

  6. What’s up with the quotes around “successful”?? Dude Canada have a great team as well Mexico is older and more experienced and Costa Rica got hot during the second stretch of qualifying. Ya can’t win every game. We did what we had to do to qualify and we were missing 3 of our top 5 players to injuries. One being whom I think is our best player. We qualified stop looking for twellman’s next rant ?

  7. Yes, our team is young but they are playing with and against some of the best talents in Europe. I don't have much faith in this team scoring in Qatar…but I would love to be proven wrong.

  8. Taylor……..
You’ve gotten soft over the past 4 years bro……
You know this coach and team is the worst the US has ever had….
I keep hearing this resounding theme of them being so young..
It’s a built in excuse when they lose …..
    Wrong mentality I believe…..
Greghead chooses the squad and this team has no leadership…
Pulisic will be injured constantly as he’s small and frail…..
I’m so tired of no one keeping it real …..
US soccer needs to completely start over….
These weak dudes get punked every game….
The best one could say is that Mexico has gotten soft also…
    Sign of the times……

  9. Woefully inadequate. Slightly above average opponents are too fast and too physical for them. What's going to happen IF they make it past the first round? The best starting 11 are competent at best, but they're never on the field at the same time. When their prospects for advancing depend on a favorable draw, defeat is inevitable. American stardards for coaching and team play need to be much higher than they've been for the last twenty years!

  10. This game didn't matter and we played like we knew it didn't matter.

Any attempt to rewrite the timeline to ignore that the team had it in hand before this game ever started is an attempt to sell the narrative that person prefers.

Take a shot every time you see one of them use words like "squeak" "barely" and "technicality".

We have enough issues to deal with without people trying to lie and turn this last match into some desperate failure where the gods somehow lucked us through after we failed to rise to a needed occasion.

  11. But why would you be shocked to not get out of the group? You just lost 0 – 2 against Costa Rica, you Will have to Play teams like Poland, Senegal, Brazil, England, Scotland, South Korea, as pot 1 2 and 3 examples.

  12. The coach is horrible! Every time the US has a break, they stop and pass it back to their cb. They can’t defend, their passes are sloppy and slow. How many players are in and out of the lineup? There is no continuity within the team. I expect them to come home from Qatar with 3 losses. And then maybe they will get a decent coach, like Marsh.

  13. US Soccer will continue to be stuck in reverse as people like Twellman refuse to see the reality that is the disaster of Berhalter.

Yes it should be celebrated going to the WC but with the most talent in CONCACAF, we are squeaking by because of a Jamaican goal not being given.

If Twellman truly cared about US Soccer he would stay focused on the disaster that is Berhalter and the issues in the US Soccer Federation.
