Throughout human history people have competed against each other in different forms of sport. People pit themselves against each other to define themselves, to try and rise to their full potential, and even to solve disputes between societies. These competitions have evolved along with humanity. Sports spectatorship has always been an integral part of this as well. For the ancient Olympics a truce was held throughout Greece so spectators and athletes could travel to the games. People identify with their teams, which creates a sense of community and excitement that is impossible to replicate.
Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the modern world. It captivates the hearts and minds of millions of people, from Mexico to Brazil to Nigeria to Korea. Fans are forced to wait in stadiums for hours while opposing sections disperse, yet intense rivalries still inspires riots and celebrations that shut down normal life. Wear the wrong shirt in Manchester on match day and you might start a fight. In Buenos Aires, there are neighborhoods that should be avoided wearing the wrong colors. The world cup is the most widely viewed event in the entire world. So with all this excitement, all this energy and allegiance, why is it so hard to catch a soccer game on television in the United States? It’s a nation comprised of people from the entire world. Shouldn’t there be a way to watch the world’s most popular sport?
With satellite TV there is. Satellite offers a wealth of programming that can’t be found anywhere else. There is better access to more exclusive packages of sports programming, allowing you to keep up with the UEFA Champions League, the Premiership, Serie A, and more. No longer will you have to miss watching Ronaldinho and Barcelona take on Bayern Munich. There are also packages covering the quickly improving MLS, featuring growing numbers of international stars and expanding rapidly in the United States. League changes have brought in international superstars like David Beckham, who joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.
With today’s high definition technology the picture on your screen of the game will also be better than ever. You might be able to pick out the actual panels on the ball as it’s making its way downfield. With satellite access to more HD channels than any other form of television, you will have a gamewatching experience better than any other. The detailed picture available these days makes some commentators say that it’s better to watch the game from home than the field!
What about those games that you can’t see because of work or some obligation, but at the same time you feel you can’t miss? After all, the time zone difference for many of those international games might mean that what you want to see is happening in the middle of night. Not to worry, modern DVR technology will allow you to preset your TV to record those high quality matches. Everything you want to see will be waiting for you to enjoy it at your pleasure. With satellite you not only can now catch the most important sports events, you can do it when it’s convenient for you.

Soccer (also called Futbol or European Football) betting is very popular in many
parts of the world. In fact, the only place that it’s not is the United States. The game
of soccer can be claimed as the world’s true sport, but the United States does not
enjoy soccer anywhere near as much as other parts of the globe. As with any other
game, it’s important to know the game before you put down your cash. Thanks to
the Internet keeping up with teams and getting information on foreign teams is a
snap. You can find some wild money lines in soccer.
If you are brand spanking new to soccer betting, you are in for a treat–and possibly
a headache. One thing that’s both good and bad is the number of leagues around
the world. It’s good because there is plenty of soccer action to wager on, but it can
be overwhelming at the same time. It’s recommended that you start by focusing on
the soccer league(s) in your region or a region that interests you. This will allow you
to become an expert in that area and you will do much better. Once you get the
hang of it, you can expand your horizons if you want.
To win more money and more consistently you will need to know how a soccer
game works–at least to some degree. The more you know about soccer and the
more you understand the flow, the better off you will be. This task can be
accomplished quickly be browsing some Internet websites and reading the data they
offer. While you are searching around, look for pages on some of the teams you
might be betting on. Specifically, look for any information on how they play the
game and anything about their scoring and defense.
The main question is about money. Can you make real money betting on soccer?
The quick answer is yes. Soccer presents some great opportunities for the informed
sports bettor. When you place a bet on a soccer match, you bet on the winner
outright. There is no point spread–although some sports books do proposition
bets with goals. You can also bet on the match ending in a draw, which happens
semi-frequently. Betting on the draw usually results in a nice payoff if it comes in.
Many draws will be +200 or higher.
The lines in soccer matches are usually pretty interesting. Matches that feature
teams who are close in talent have plus-money lines, which is different from other
sports. For example, you might have the favorite being a +125 and the underdog
being a +175. No matter whom you choose, you are getting value for your money.
Even if you are not experienced with soccer betting or soccer in general, it can
sometimes be easy to spot the big favorite. Teams that are overwhelmingly
dominant in a match might be -500 favorites. Obviously, there’s no value here and
smart sports bettors should stay away from such matches.
Here’s an example betting line.
West Ham United +120
Bolton Wanderers +175
Draw +225
As you can see, there’s value in all three wagers and the line is easy to interpret. It’s
important to note that typically, after 90 minutes of play, the game is final. The
sports book might not take Overtime, the Golden Goal rule and penalty kicks
(outside of regulation) into consideration.
Overall, soccer betting is definitely something sports bettors should look into. The
game gives sports bettors great value for their money and there is plenty of action
to go around. If you have not tried betting on soccer yet, give it a look. You just
might find your new moneymaker.

It was June 23rd, 2010 in South Africa and the U.S. soccer team faced Algeria. It was late into the game and American fans were starting to lose hope as it seemed like it wasn’t going to happen for them. Passionate soccer fans were heartbroken, considering the boys got robbed with a few calls and could have made it through with a few decisions made in their favor. Just when everyone was down, Landon Donovan comes to the rescue!
It was a must win situation for U.S.A. in their final game vs. Algeria. This game had American soccer fans biting their nails and caused many pits in stomachs. I know my stomach couldn’t handle it. They had some incredible chances, but nothing was falling for them. Once again, they even had a poor decision made by the ref which took a goal back from them.
England was playing against Slovenia as the U.S. played Algeria. If England won their match, it would force the U.S. into a must win situation. We all knew that England took a lead early in the game and it was unlikely that Slovenia would get the equalizer with England’s strong and experienced backline. As each minute ticked away, it seemed as if the American boys were going home.
In the 90th minute, the U.S. had another counter attack. But this time it actually meant something. The ball was moved from north to south and this play ended with one of the most theatrical moments in U.S. soccer history.
And of course it was Landon Donovan. The leader of the team steps up for the occasion. This goal, as well as the goal in their comeback vs. Slovenia only solidifies the argument that Landon’s the greatest U.S. soccer player of all-time.
With this incredible game winner by the U.S. team, it would put them in first place in their group stage. This means they avoid playing Germany in the 2nd round and will face Ghana. Although Ghana is very strong, they’re definitely no Germany. Not only did it mean we get the easier opponent, but finishing the group stage in 1st place is a first for the U.S. It’s a major accomplishment, especially with England in the group.
This team has more fight in them than other team I’ve seen in the World Cup so far. Hopefully they can bring the same level of intensity to Ghana. The winner of this match plays the winner of South Korea vs. Uruguay. And the winner of that advanced to the Semi-finals. We couldn’t ask for a better draw at this point!
If the U.S. brings their best game to Ghana, they should do just fine. With a win, soccer may just grow a bit more in the U.S. They’ve made it extremely exciting and I’m sure they’ll continue to give us something to talk about vs. Ghana.
