Former USMNT star Brian McBride says U.S. soccer players must go to Europe if they wish to reach their potential and help the team reach higher levels of international success.

the should stay in the MLS
True
In order for American soccer to get better it has to market itself and attract better athletes. Most Kids in the USA dream of being a baseball, basketball, or American football player.
As an European, MSL is a joke. And I watch it on basis. It is comparable to the lower legues in Europe, like countries with 5 mill and under. And even then, teams in those legues would give th best MSL teams a run for their money. If USA want to to better in football, they need to change the whole system.
Who is going to watch US youth playing abroad if they are 15 years old? If they don't make the cut, how will they provide for themselves? They don't speak the languages there, unless they play in England. If they don't make it in soccer, how will they survive?
USA should have an amateur league. Go to college and get a degree. Maybe try to get an Olympic medal in soccer for men. Keep it simple.
the best start would be to stop calling it soccer – its football
So many boys in my local franchise dream about going to England and play for LSC, Liverpool Soccer Club.
The us league system Doesn't help either .
the US needs European coaches, and proper youth training facilities.
People, stop the insanity! This is a country of baseball, basketball, and "REAL" football. Not a game of kickball that usually ends of 1-0!
Brian McBride was excellent for Fulham and Everton.
Unfortunately most US players just arent that good. The truth hurts lol !
Most US football players cannot play in Europe they are not good enough. European clubs start grooming their players at a young age
The problem and this isn’t an original thought is to even play soccer in the us you have to shell out thousands annually to be on some traveling comp team so basically if you aren’t some rich white kid you aren’t playing and even those that do are often burned out and don’t even want to play anymore by the time they get to high school
Why not get an education and get a job, instead of playing soccer for a living?
Relegation and growing youth programs under pro teams are clutch, MLS is on its way. 5 years from now I think we will have a very different league and more established networks to european programs.
Europe doesn’t want them. Hth
Usa needs 1, 2 and 3 division. Its important that the teams had a little of scare.
Jermain Jones comments aged really well . 3 years later here we are! ??
Who’s here after Christian Pulisic won the Champions League with Chelsea?
US soccer will continue to suffer for another decade. Don't get me wrong they'll make the WC but mainly as a home coming queen.
Nowhere accept them if alway called "soccer"
In Germany, in Italy, in England, in Scotland. U forget Spain my guy. Spanish clubs are up there with the best of the best.
U.S players should definitely go to Europe.
I simply love to see that MLS dont have relegation and just keeps "omg, why we are so bad?"
speaks volumn when you get more experience on the practice squad in Europe than being a starter in the MLS.
The number one thing that MUST happen if U.S. soccer is ever going to take the next step is to GET RID OF THE PAY-TO-PLAY YOUTH SYSTEM.
Soccer is not a rich man's game in ANY nation that is actually any good at it.
finally seeing players leaving smh Morris
Best players over to Europe? You think!!!!!???? Doesn’t take a firmer USMNT player to recognize that. No brainer. The MLS is horrible soccer, and our USSF is a freakin mess.
I like how he said Scotland over Spain
