NBC paid $2.7 BILLION for Premier League rights and and a new MLS TV contract is around the corner. Is Soccer’s popularity finally hitting the point where it will overtake America’s more favored sports?

I foresee the americans becoming a powerhouse in football as well in the future just like they are in most other sports, and I say that somewhat begrudgingly as a european. As of right now they're just a bit late to the party.
The reason why American soccer isn’t really “getting there” is because they are more focused on making money from the sport than actually playing the sport and winning games. Soccer is just another cash cow for the networks and club owners.
It's not soccer, football, all the world say football, except you Americans ??
Make a video about concacaf e conmebol.
This is my only issue with soccer, and it’s my american ignorance, Im still confused about how the seasons work. I guess the leagues pause often to participate in various tournaments… which is atypical of other American sports. There’s so many tournaments it’s weird lol. But I’m getting into it big time
This is FootBall not soccer
Yeah the NFL = Not For Long
I love that its popularity is increasing in America because it annoys far-right types like Glenn Beck and Co.
Yes, but football is not just EPL people!!!!
Football (soccer) should’ve leapfrogged the NHL from Day one. Simply due to the accessibility to play it anywhere at any climate & all you need is the ball and some make shift goals using a couple of coats, whilst Hockey is filled with pads and ice. Through that you would’ve thought generations sooner would’ve taken to it, even on a domestic, but now with the idea on board and the online services, the game is exposed to American families that haven’t I guess.
I think a big part of soccer’s growth in America is gonna be the growing Latino population
Hockey would be great but it’s so hard to follow when you can hardly see the puck.
The premier imo is overrated and dull, wow Liverpool and City up top again. MLS is always competitive
I’ve honestly consider getting into watching MLS or premier league. It looks like a fun sport and could be fun to add to my list of sports I watch (MLB, NFL, NHL, and NASCAR)
The great thing about the European football scene in the US is that it has its own time slot because of the time difference that isn’t unreasonable for American viewers and doesn’t conflict with any Major US sports in their late afternoon/evening/night game time slots
This sport is growing rapidly, the only thing holding it back is pay to play, once that's gone. Oh boy we'll be an international powerhouse mark my words
One day the US will be a football powerhouse ?
My 3 fav leagues MLS, LigaMx, and EPL!!!
Football fan from Germany here….its beautiful to see the rise of the sport in the USA so they can share the Joy with the Rest of the world finally. Eventually it will become not just a hobby or an interest but as in other countries world wide , a deep passion
I want to strongly endorse your praise of NBC’s coverage of Premier League. It takes a smart, straightforward tone without all the forced happy chat or fake provocation you get on Skye, Paramount or Fox. I really appreciate that—to the point that it becomes hard for me to listen to the others.
I started watching the sport in 2009, I remember watching Premier League games on ESPN 2 (and FSC), the match where Arsenal destroyed Everton at Goodison Park was the first match I ever watched on ESPN 2.
During the 2010-2011 season they showed a decent amount of Monday night (in England) matches on ESPN 2 and I always made it a point to watch those games.
Given what they could do with their limited licensing rights,
ESPN, not in terms of how the sport was covered on shows like Sportsnation, PTI, Around The Horn…etc. Shows where soccer was not often spoke of well, did a solid job in broadcasting the EPL during that time (and to an extent, the sport in general).
I think it’s understated how much ESPN helped grow the EPL and in general soccer in the U.S. for the 4 year span they had the limited rights to the EPL.
Awesome video! ?
Jolly good sir, this is going tu be a fun couple of years to see how soccer grows leading up to and after the world cup and seeing the mls TV contract.
Atlanta United used to regularly pack the Benz 70K plus; beautiful thing to see in real life (and in FIFA)
In 15 years the most popular leagues in America will be the NBA, NFL, Super League (or whatever it gets called), MLB, Liga MX, NHL and MLS. In that order.
Where is the viral button?
willing? more like forced to switch to digital. ESPN+, Peacock, and Paramount+ all built their product around soccer. Its just a question of which one I want to pay for.
Check your e-mail! 😀 ALSO! AMAZING VIDEO!
Just wow Jake! This is an amazing video! Very professional! Destined to go viral
Where'd my comment go, Jake? CENSORSHIIIIIIIP!!! Power to da people!!!! Eat the rich (and the content creators)!!!!!
As a European American I love to see this ?? ??
Jake… this video was great but you ignored the number 1 league watched in the US…. Liga MX…. How much would that have added to the valuations you mentioned… I'm not a MX fan but if it's soccer in general we're talking about you have to mention this league. You mentioned respect a lot in your video as a reason for growth right… One other thought I have on this is that the fact that ESPN and other major media outlets never picked up the sport locally and internationally in my opinion, has lead to the growth of great channels like yours, 11Yanks, Tactical, etc. Now there's an abundance of really good and diverse content. Much better than anything SportsCenter would do. I think y'all are part of the growth here in the US! All the best and keep putting out your great content.
klinsman is a loser
Finally. More Americans need to get into this beautiful game.
