ESPN FC’s Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens look ahead to Qatar 2022 and give their predictions for Group B. Both Gab and Juls back England to make easy progress in the group, but feel it’s a close call between Wales, USA and Iran for the next successful spot.

I support England and Wales as UK teams, but honestly I think the USA is the strongest in the group, maybe even followed by Wales.
England was just obliterated by Hungary. Im not so sure they are the favorite. Idk who is tho
Yet the Americans have never had a world-class player, yet they always seem to advance out of their group stage, even when they are never predicted to do so. The same thing will probably happen this year.
Neither does England if pulisic isn’t world class. Clowns
These teams are sleeping on Iran and they will be shocked by the end of group stage.
England losing 0-4 vs Hungary with Harry Kane and in world Cup they will get a magic stick to win this group??? Huh…… All 3 will be tough for them
McKennie and Aaronson are arguably world class
UsA will surprise the world , it’s a good thing for everyone to think US doesn’t have potential ,
USA are beating England. Point blank period. England are overrated.
I'm sick of everyone just going straight to England winning the group, let alone all 3 games!? No. Not gunna happen. "Anyone lucky to get a point off them" is a ridiculously sad way to think. Go Yanks!
Don’t forget iran will have home field advantage in every game. It’s only a 2 hour flight and their people are more passionate than any other country for football
England just lost 4-0 to Hungary. I wouldn't count us out.
You can see what i meant clearer now, england 0 hungary 4
The US will need to play really well & be LUCKY to make it out of the group. This will be learning experience for this young team and inexperienced coach.
The problem for the U.S. is they have not played very well on the road & they do not have a clutch #9 finisher.
What a bunch of homers lol. Ok who is world class on the England side?
How is Pulisic not a world class player? He's much better than Gareth Bale and honestly is there any player on Chelsea that you can say is "better" than Pulisic? I think not without bias. Just typical ESPN trying to get headlines. Lets face the facts, USA should progress to the knockout stages pretty easily. Wales were getting owned by Ukraine and won by a lucky own goal and Iran is not a threat whatsoever.
Bale hasn't been world class for 4 years ???
What? Yes they do, not just Pulisic, but Weah, Dest, Reyna, Mckennie, Arronsen.
I wouldn't be surprised if England don't win this group. I think they'll qualify, but 1st place isn't guaranteed. I can't remember the last time England won their group at the WC. 1986 or 1990? ??♂️
2022 for me is just a skill test to see where we are at with this young and talented group. 2026 though is where the opportunity to win a World Cup is for the usa.
England lost to Hungary. Wales hammered Hungary 2-0 to qualify Euros
We have Bale still a possible game changer
Put these facts to one side and lets be realistic, only a disaster of a tournament can result in anything other than a England clean sweep
Comments seem to ignore that Wales has a solid defence and a young but capable all round team,
Add to that experience and success at recent tournaments, its USA and Iran that need to be at their peak to have chance of qualifying
I expect us to qualify because we can compete against the English much more successfully than the others,we likely are favourites against those others
USMNT is not getting out of group play
man you don't need a legit top 5 world class player to win, Ronaldo and Messi never won, the best teams that won the WC often time does not have a top 5 player, England are overrated every WC just because they own the premiere league, only edge they have over the US is because they're older and has more League experience.
US problem is they don't have a world class manager.
England is the Dallas Cowboys of international football. Aways hyped up, always disappoint. US and Wales go through.
Aahhhhhhh no, Bale is not world class, he used to be, if he was he would have started at Real Madrid. World class players don't ride the bench.
