U.S. Soccer says women's team was paid more than men



The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team has been fighting for equal pay. But in a new letter released by U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro, he claims the women’s team has been paid more in salary and game bonuses than the men’s team between 2010 and 2018.

  1. OH Gosh – now they have them on "Madam President (Secretary)" despite the resolution that they do get paid more – and despite the fact that they make LESS money FOR the organisation than men… as well as being able to be beaten by a team of 14 Year Old Australian boys..

  4. They don’t have equal skills to the men nor do they generate equal revenue. A boys high school team could beat them so pay them what the boys get, which is nothing. Alternatively, drop women’s soccer altogether and let them compete against the men. They won’t make the team and, again, they’ll get nothing. The women are actually getting much more than they’re worth so they should STFU.

  5. The womans team cant even win a boys under 15 team from Dallas a few years ago and the Australian team lost 7-0 to an under 15 boys team. I dont see how they deserve the same market based salary as the men, when the competition and interest is exponentially higher than the womans teams. I'm sorry but the market doesn't care about equal pay. Our eyeballs don't care either.

I've said this before and i'll say it again, soccer is a kids activity that every kid in the world plays because it's easy and cheap,in america we grow up and out grow soccer, the world doesn't,why? because real sports requires equipment and athletic ability.

  11. Last Men's Word Cup Tournament,U.S.Boys team,did not qualify to be invited. In fact the boys team never made it to round of 8, U,S,Women's team never lower than third. Ladies should be paid more, they are winners.They work at teamwork, everybody plays both ends, O and D. They know where the bal is going,they are prepared to the max, and speed kills.

When was the last time you heard this, "Hey Liz, the big game is on TONIGHT!!!, get the girls and we'll watch it on my new 101 inch television that I just bought because of an advisor, get Harold to make his delicious dip and I'll grill some meat on my new grill I just bought because of an advertisement I just saw, BYOBOOZ, party tonight 30 girls show up" herein lies the problem. Women don't watch women's team sports, they never have, young girls don't watch women's team sports, men don't watch women's team sports. You want gender equality, 1/2 the population are women, get women to support your own gender's team sports by buying tickets, traveling to watch games, women take your kids to games, buy team paraphernalia, jerseys, t-shirts etc. Women watch Oprah (why she's so rich), Ellen. Women get together for wine un-wind de-stress parties, book readings. I had girls that played sports their entire lives including soccer, basketball, swimming, water polo but do you think I could get one of my daughters to watch a game of anything, well NO, goto a game, not unless their best friends were there and they still didn't watch the games, they gabbed chitchat, giggled the entire game, then at the end they would say to me, "Who won". Equal pay = equal support. Don't count on men watching sub-standard performance. If the USWNT can't beat a 15-year-old FC Dallas boys team now, just wait until Transgender women start to play, all you need is a couple to dominate the entire game, then natural women will sit on the bench.

I am curious just how many men posting comments have female relatives, friends, coworkers, neighbors who have played, currently play, or will play soccer literally because they have been inspired by the USWNT. They have made U.S. soccer a lot more money from youth league participation, apparel sales, and tv views than U.S. soccer is acknowledging. Im sure they use the success of the womens team in the last decade or so as a strong argument when negotiating for bundled tv deals for the mens and womens games.

  15. They all receive a guaranteed minimum salary of $170K from the USSF regardless of whether they play, don't play, win or lose. That figure can go up with win bonuses too. That's put them in the world's top 0.5% based on salary. They also have the best infrastructure of all women in the sport. Yet, they're still unhappy? It really shows how privileged and self entitled they are.

  22. Let the women play against a high school boys team and lets see how they do. In Australia, the women's Olympic team ran out of women's teams to beat, so they played a a league of boys teams called "15 and under", that is boys that are 15 years old and under, the women's team lost big time. Lets see these champs play high school boys.

  24. Which draws more? More ad revenue, more sponsors, more viewers? So on and so forth… I'd bet dollars to donuts mens soccer is by far more popular than womens soccer. It doesn't matter how the two teams are doing compared to each other, it matters how much money is being brought it by their respective teams.

    Let me ask you something… Do you think the players in the WNBA should be making the same amount of money as LeBron James? Of course you don't. The WNBA doesn't bring in nearly as much money as the NBA. It doesn't matter how talented the women in the WNBA are, paying them anywhere near the money a LeBron James is making, just so this whole "equal pay" garbage can be appeased is BULL****!!!

    Edit: Look at it this way. Let's say the women were paid the same amount as men while bringing in far less revenue. What then? The team would be then hemorrhaging money, quite badly. Sooner or later, the bank account would empty and… oppsie, can't pay the players AT ALL!!!!!!!!!! Then what? What then? Seriously, I am asking all the people complaining about "equal pay"… What happens when the money dries up and the girls can't get paid AT ALL?!?!?!?!! No one has an answer to this question? OK, then DROP IT!!!!
