It was a remarkable year for the U.S. Women’s National Team and especially for Carli Lloyd. She led the team with 18 goals, including six at the Women’s World Cup, half of those coming in the first 16 minutes of the now-famous Women’s World Cup Final. The Golden Ball winner as the top player in the Women’s World Cup, she won her second U.S. Soccer Player of the Year Award this year and is a finalist for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year.

In the last year-and-half, U.S. Soccer has invested in the organization and expansion of a high performance department which now includes 13 staff members for the WNT. The department is divided into three segments: medical, sports science and analysis. In this episode of Behind the Crest, Presented by Volpi, we hear from various members of the department, as well as U.S. WNT head coach Jill Ellis and midfielder Samantha Mewis, as they share how valuable these talented staff members are in the process of maximizing the performance of the U.S. WNT on and off the field.

Pushing for the equalizer, Christian Pulisic sent a lined corner kick from the right side to Weston McKennie who connected with a solid header that was saved. The second chance ball fell out to Luca de la Torre outside the box on left side. De la Torre recovered and sent a dipping cross into the mix that Jordan Morris rose high to head in from six yards out.
