11. The best part of this is that the UK originally called it football, then the US started calling it Football and in the 19th century this made the UK all huffy so they called it soccer. (this was also to differentiate between rugby and football when they were creating more congruent rule sets for the game) then the US started calling it soccer as the rules slowly made their way over and rugby turned into American football and was thus named football. Soccer referred to what the rest of the world called football and by the time the US learned about this, they just said "nope screw it. we changed it once we are not going to do it again."

    TLDR, the UK is actually the one who got the US to call football soccer
