  1. Berhalter is a bad manager, that’s been obvious forever both in man management and tactics but wow….. C Reyna and his wife are disgusting people. Only one person has the right to disclose that assuredly traumatic event from Rosalinds past…. Rosalind…. yet the Reyna’s are going to expose this thing that happened to her 30 years ago, not out of concern for her, but as payback for their precious little boy not getting to play? Scum, absolute scum.

    ……..And I hate the Reyna’s for their behavior as helicopter parents, despicable.
    …..but Your too young to know about how far we have come. During my stint as a couch/player (1968- 2004) I watched the kids playing/trying out for soccer (7-17) go from the left overs, from American Football to the best athletes in the schools. There were few public schools that offered soccer that weren’t dominated by foreign kids.
    Btw……soccer moms are not unique in American youth sports, have you ever been to an intense little league baseball or football game?
    We are a preteen program. We are just now producing enough players with international professional experience to have a bit of depth.
    I’m sorry you hate the coach so much but I agree that it’s time to move away from nepotism etc. the soccer community is a very small community still….at least at the serious level.
    What do you think of the idea of bringing promotion and relegation to the MLS to add some excitement?

    You are right anyway. I'm German and we are 4 times world champions and 3 times European champions. Historically we are one of the greatest footballing nations of all time (we just ignore everything since 2018 for the sake of the argument) and there was still NEVER a time where the DFB wasn't shat on. I proclaimed – like quite a few others (although a minority, but it was loud enough to hear) in 2014, that our world cup winning manager (Joachim Löw) isn't any good. We were outcoached in the round of last 16 by Algeria and we should have lost against France on the Quarters. Manuel Neuer just said No and won the game anyway.

    Because you can be pleased with the current results, but as a fan you ALWAYS have to keep your federation in check.

    They are NOT your friends and if they could get away with it they would get rid of you. Fans are a pain in the behind for every federation because they want these uncool and especially unprofitable things like "Reasonable priced tickets" and "A genuinely effort to better the quality of play in the country" and "Not having to sign up for 3 different Pay-TV broadcasters to watch a SINGLE LEAGUE". And if there is an already grown footballing culture they want you to adhear to that additionally instead of just following the money.

    And while I agree with you stance on that you could never be the friend of your federation… I have to honestly admit that as I outsider I see CONSIDERABLE success, which is also (but surely not exclusively) linked to the work of the federation. The infrastructure has become impeccable at some clubs, the youth training has produced at least 2 world class teenagers that are already playing in two huge teams in the past 5 years instead of … you know…. Landon Donovan. Genuine interest in the sport is growing and the quality of play is rising. The MLS has gone from "Poorly paid retirement league" (comparatively of course, the pay was really good!) to "Eh, not bad" and quite a few other things.

  12. All football federations are Jobs For The Boys. It's the same everywhere. That's not what's holding US football back.

    Every one of the US team seem to be rich kids or, at the very least, from the safe suburbs. There's no normal, working class or poor kids. It costs 3-7k a year to send a child to "soccer practice". For what's already a niche sport, by having football be so inaccessible, it's reducing the talent pool even further.

    The prohibitive cost of football creates a glass ceiling which, even for a rich country of 350M people, may prove extremely difficult to overcome.

  20. Berhalter has to go as coach. Not because of poor results (although that may be reason enough too) but because he failed in the top priority for any coach: to maintain the trust and respect of the squad.
    Berhalter should never have spoken publicly about the "attitude" of an unnamed player. That name was certain to be revealed sometime and once it was that was certain to distract from team performances.
    The Federation cannot sack the Reynas as parents but it could withdraw the privileged access to officials which is customarily given to the families of players.
    Perhaps Gio Reyna should apply for German citizenship if he really wants to play in a World Cup final.

  29. Usa soccer has fundamental problems only nation where education is mixed with sport and now pay to play club has limited your player pool to suburbian middle class kids rest of world players hood kids System dosent match other nations

  31. Who cares. Football in the US is a sad joke. MLS whatever. When they start playing at a League 1 or 2 level let me know. A true disappointment given the resources.
