The U S. team usually has the massive advantage of playing at home in the Gold cup, the Nations league playoffs & now the Copa Americas too. About the only time that they recently did not have this advantage in Concacaf tournaments was in the Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup & they ended up tied for 4th place with Costa Rica in points. They didn't even qualify in 2018.
The results from almost always having home field advantage are:
1.) The U.S. media & fans believing that the U.S. team is considerably better than they really are.
2.) FIFA giving them a much better rating than they should have. Come on now, let's be honest, there is absolutely no way that this U.S. team is the 11th best in the world!!! Not even close!!!
3.) The U.S. team has learned to play a comfortable game because they are so used to playing at home, that they struggle on the road and often have trouble dealing with various adversities.
The USMNT organization should be pushing for Concacaf to hold more games in these tournaments outside of the U.S., as it will ultimately make the U.S. team stronger & better equipped to deal with adversity.
