  1. Me watching a Emma Hayes team in blue struggling to score: "GET THE BALL TO SAM KERR ALREADY!"

It's amazing how fast they are looking distincly like an Emma Hayes team. This is a testament to how much smarter women are then men; men's teams (both club and international) tend to take months to really pick up a new manager's system. This team looks so like Chelsea in its play patterns already that I kept looking for Millie Bright during Chinese attacks.

  2. what you all need to understand is that these friendlies were used to test out a lot of new players who have never played at an international level. For people like Jenna Nighswonger this being her first 90 minutes and second appearance made some impressive kicks on those set pieces. This starting lineup specifically had 7 women who had never played together before at this level. And this ended up being a great opportunity, even in the Colombia friendlies, to see emerging stars like Jayden Shaw and Mia Fishel, who have amazing chemistry. This is the new generation getting their first taste of what international playing feels like. All the stars that haven't retired are probably resting for the Olympics!!

  3. Williams, Latch and Coffey were given the chance to shine. It didn't happen. Why the coach changed the successful lineup of the second half of last game? They missed the opportunity to play together again. Shaw and Horan are reproducing functions, and Shaw is much better at that now (organizing the attack, passing the ball). The first half was simply chaotic, lacking of everything. The second half not too bad. But, as a team they are way below the quality shown by the Europeans and Japan (Did you watch Spain vs Sweden? That's how soccer is played). We should get ready for another bad Olympics, and expect the usual excuses.

  4. Midge Purce impressed me more than any other player.
She works out of pressure competently, drives toward the goal and blows by defenders, and makes good crosses TO attackers in front of goal.

  5. Just watched Spain and Sweden battle it out. The US team compared to these two EU teams looks slow, out of shape, and uneven. Better get on it, this won't work in a true international match up.

  6. It's time to call it. The current crop of new players are NOT as good as the players they are replacing. Good coaching will only go so far. There is a blandness about them. None stand out. Maybe the years from 2014 to 2020 will be "the Golden era" and it will take 10 years to become No 1 again

  7. All respect for these amazing Chinese women breaking the barriers of traditionalism and playing sports !! They display so much courage and ambition !! And their GK is super talented. As for the USA, they need to get in shape, Europe has advanced so much with women's football. It's going to be hard for them to take back the crown.

  8. Meanwhile…across the pond…top 10 teams are playing top 10 teams. Producing real quality football. I love me some USWNT, but I've been saying for the last few years, this team is not even top 10 caliber anymore. #3? Not close.

  9. Emma Hayes is spot on about lack of finishing quality and imagination in the box. Shots were straight at the keeper or straight at a defender. Not too much give and go or tight passing. Lots to learn from. Hope there is time before the Olympics.
