  1. MLS has been trying to outside US Soccer for a while…since it is they that are trying to keep the mandate for American players on MLs rosters. To say it's not so then just look how the teams are finding loopholes in the rules to fill rosters with non-Americans.

  2. So they tried to dump American soccer history so they could focus on developing Liga mx in the leagues cup? The leagues cup serves no purpose other than a money grab from Liga mx fans that live in the States.

  3. I love that USL felt they should weigh in.

All in all, much ado about nothing. MLS teams will find a way to put NextPro players on their first team roster for the open cup and effectively play their reserve teams.

  4. Things that could improve the tournament are many things. 1) promote it better (I’m looking at you MLS). USL, NISA, and the amateur clubs promote it better. 2) get games on tv a little more. Early rounds can remain on a stream cause it’s true people won’t tune in much for teams playing in a 1,000 venue (how is Central Valley Fuego a USL League One club not drawing a crowd in a 1,000 stadium). 3) get someone to invest in it. Apple wants to invest in the game they could’ve done so with the US Open Cup even though CBS Sports have the tv rights.

  5. The comments made by the CBS Morning Footy Crew are shameful and ignorant. Too lazy to do their homework on this topic. This is all about greed and money. Overall, the US Open Cup champion is awarded $300,000 in prize money and a berth in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, while the runner-up receives $100,000 from the US Soccer Federation. MLS owners want the U.S. Soccer Federation to pay more prize money. It's simply not cost-effective for MLS to send their top clubs to play in the U.S. Open Cup for a small amount of money.
