By stealing half the paycheck from men to give to women as charity is basically assuring that the men will never be able to compete on a global level. Think about the NBA we get top players from around the world to play here. If all of a sudden they said guys you need to give half you paycheck to the women to be "fair" everyone that could would go play over seas instead. It means that the USWNT faced no real competition in that tournament, just as they faced no real competition in the previous World Cups. Basically in each of these tournaments the USWNT had the best team, and one other country faced them in the final only to lose. Who's to say what the USWNT would do if they had to face high level competition in all rounds? We'll never know because it didn't happen and probably won't ever happen.

30. Well see when their support completely disappears once the rest of the worlds women start playing more like their men counterpoints. US women have dominated by default because up until recently football was a men’s sport around the world and only American women played at any competitive level. Now that it’s a major women’s sport and European countries are catching up we are starting to see that the US system of faster/stronger is being leveled off be teams being smart and better passing skills. US has failed to make it finals in Olympics etc and you see the support literally disappear. People love winners in America. They won’t watch soccer just to watch it. Good luck girls…better learn how to really play now because the other teams are catching up.

    This women prizepool is subsidezed by men because the tournament organisaitions sells women and men tournament in a single lot instead of 2 separate lots.
    On TV, men tennis matches have more viewers than women and for a longer period of time.
    If TV could apply for the men and women tournament separately, men tournament would be 2 times the price of the women tournament.

If it weren't for the international competitions where the U.S. women's team excels and regularly contends for a World Cup or Olympic title, there would be even less interest in women's soccer than there is. I used to attend the women's professional league games in D.C. because my daughter was playing youth soccer at the time, and a lot of her teammates and the families would go. And even the relatively minimal interest there was at the time was coming off of the 1999 World Cup championship that garnered so much attention. But the stadium was always nearly empty, aside from the few occasions where they did doubleheaders with D.C. United. Then the stadium was full, although it usually filled up gradually throughout the Freedom game, and got full once the United game was starting.
