The US does have a number 9: Pulisic. Whomever decided he was ever a 10 or wing needs to go be a baseball fan. This idea that the 9 in anything with a front 3 should be a layoff player is putting the cart before the horse. You can't generate possession in the attacking half unless you have a point man who can drag defenders backwards by carrying the ball first, then shooting or dishing it off. Every single great moment Pulisic has ever had with the USMNT was from running with the ball at the keeper or running onto one. He has never in his USMNT career looked comfortable or competent with his back to the goal and defense. He's.. what? 25 years old? If he hasn't done it yet, he never will. If he does something well ALL THE TIME, that's who he is.

He is right in that US will get far depending on who they get in R16. Delusional USMNT fans see getting knocked out in R16 as a failure because we lost to Netherlands. Look at US in 2002 and who we played to reach QF. Look in 2014 who 🇨🇷 played in R16 to reach QF. Look who Mexico has played everytime they have gotten KO in R16. Mexico best chance to advance to QF was in 2002 which happened to be our best chance to advance too. In this WC we reached what we were supposed to depending on who we were paired up in R16.
