If men’s soccer in US is ever going to get to top level it will have to be fixed from the inside out starting with boys club and school soccer. My son was captain in 6th grade of his middle school team and also captain subsequent years after on his school team which were state champs In high school and I can tell you it was mediocre soccer and less than mediocre coaching. The club team which was 50 miles and 2 counties away that we traveled to to find an acceptable level was still manipulated by coach with kid as our #10 which kept us barely in top ten club team of our state and at barely in top 60 in club in country. We had the talent to compete as the best for our age if players were played correctly and we had a legit center-mid. Therefore the top 3 players on our team stopped playing When your elite players step away because of poor leadership and manipulation you have a problem. My son grew more as a soccer player when he played with the all the English 2nd language kids that were 5.& 6 years his elder. He toyed with the school and club player close to his age. Until you fix pay to play USMNT will struggle continue to get ridiculed. Even then it will take a generation or 2.
