US Soccer Federation bows down to MLS

Shown by its mismanagement of the US Open Cup, the US Soccer Federation has lost all authority as the governing body for the sport in this country. USSF has allowed MLS to become the most powerful soccer entity in this country. At the same time, the US soccer system is a mess as leagues compete against leagues. The chaos of the way that the US Open Cup debacle has been run shows how weak the leadership is under the US Soccer Federation.

Also discussed in this episode is the new TV deals from USL and NWSL, and how those two leagues will be giving MLS a run for its money since the launch of MLS Season Pass.

  1. What is the state of Paramount Plus soccer content heading into later in 2024. It has been awesome. But I am already worried about it. This includes the uncertainty of the Italy Serie A rights, plus the fact that they only show 4 or 5 games a week in the Argentina league now instead of the whole league. I am worried they will do this with Brazil league also. So do you know what is going on with Paramount Plus?

  2. Watching these Concacaf Champions League highlights is kinda sad. We really need a full western hemisphere Copa Libretadoris and Sudamericana. There is precedent with the way the Asian Champions league is run as they split east and west until the final. I think the Copas can do that up until the semi finals. So for groups through quarterfinals. A north region can be CONCACAF plus Colombia and Venuzela. The rest of COMENBOL can be the southern half.

  3. As pointed out on your podcast, the existing soccer non-pyramid is cannibalizing itself because USSF allows it. Until MLS gets slapped down, none of this will change. Garber needs a spanking but nobody at USSF wants to pick up the paddle.
