  1. The US team's position is probably similar to the English men's team in the early 1900s. England and Scotland played the first international in 1872 and England dominated for 30 years or so. Much is made of England only winning one World Cup but they won three Olympic gold medals in the early 1900s before the world cup existed. We all know the rest of history as England fell behind. I think the US women's team will always be one of the most competitive teams, a little like the men's world cup where there are usually about 6 teams that have a chance but the day of them being the one or two hot favorites might be over. To be fair to the current team, they are facing two factors, the passing of a golden generation and the improvement by the competition. American players may have to move to Europe so they can paly in the English or Spanish league and the Champions league, much like the men's game, in order to have that competitive edge. I wish them luck, because like England's men's team, it's a bit of curse that fans expect the team to be no 1 based on histroy.

  2. Didn't argentina lose a game in the last World-cup.. These games are like pre-season/spring training for the Uswnt.. Preparing for the Olympics which is the Ultimate goal..
The Uswnt will still win the Gold-cup, even without some Star-players..

  3. The USWNT has been long caught & overtaken by the European nations as soon as they started investing in women’s programs it was game over its a harsh reality but unless they do something drastic quickly the USWNT is never coming close to being the top team in the world again

  4. No. Globally women's football isn't what it used to be. This is the new norm and its ok. The biggest thing the US needs to change is their mindset i.e. that it is their right to win. there are about 20 teams that can beat them on any given day and they have to work for and ear every goal and win. Breaking teams down is much hard as the women's game has advanced. this is a good thing, they simply need to adjust to the new reality and be a bit more humble.

  5. The issues I think are much deeper than reasons such as it's really pre-season + a transition period thing. There is the need for a proper youth academy development program similar in nature to what was done for the boys in 2007 (we are now seeing the fruits of that investment today on the men's side). The resistance I think had more to do with the fact that the women's program at the senior level has been successful for many years (thanks Title 9). The youth teams have been failing now for some time while other soccer powers have been catching up as they have been investing in their youth development programs. You can see that with Mexico and most of the bigger European programs. Their youth players have better ball handling skills while we have traditionally focused on speed and strength. That is no longer enough. The "pay to play" program has been a consistent issue and also having the elite youth players still playing high school through their senior years (huge mistake). The boys program ended in 2020 and transitioned to MLS Next while the girls academy program actually started in 2017 and ended basically after a season where it transitioned back to ECNL (which is still pay to play). In December 2021, Major League Soccer announced MLS Next Pro, a new professional league that will complete an integrated player pathway from MLS Next through to MLS first teams. The league included 21 teams and started its initial season in 2022. There is no such thing for the young ladies today. There is also a ton of talent that play in "corner leagues" all around the country that simply can't afford being in "pay to play" and a lot of that talent then drifts southward into Mexico (a good percentage of the current Mexican squad were born in the US). The wonderful thing about the boys academy was that for the MLS affiliated teams there was zero cost and for the super non-MLS clubs their were significant subsidies. So, I think that it's really about youth development.

  6. You can't expect to win everything all the time, and that's what happened in the last WC- "we lost the WC by a few centimeters"? NO, you lost in the knockout rounds babe.

  7. you know why they haven't advanced..because you keep going with the same players who produce and cant produce anything Morgan…why is she still on the team…the whole defense has got to go…the fowards…no dribbling skills…no passing skills…just run and kick run and kick…time to clean house

  8. Our development system is based on pay to play, which means lots of formal, refereed games at young ages viewed by screaming parents who only care about winning.

    “Kick it Kayla! Yea!!”

It results in route 1 football that does nothing for development, hence the typical US player is a good athlete but with limited creativity and technique.

  9. The US will never win a World Cup again. The Mexican players are smaller in statue; however, they are more agile, quicker and faster. They were running circles around the larger US players. Mexico is like Spain who have smaller and quicker players. US is like the Netherlands who have bigger players with less agility. Spain beat Netherlands 3–0 UEFA Women's Nations League. Lionel Messi esq. players who are smaller, faster, quicker and who possess remarkable agility is the new norm. US has terrible ball control. When your big, agility becomes a disadvantage. You need agility for ball control. Spain has superior one–touch ball control. The women's game will also drift towards Pep Guardiola’s one–touch quick–pass Manchester City styled schemes.🙂

  10. This is the beauty of FOOTBALL, anything can happen and overall, US vs Mexico game displayed good football display to watch! Great win from Mexico

  11. They can make all the excuses they want but the reality is that the US team isn’t really declining the world is just simply now investing resources in women’s leagues and are improving and building young talent. The US has invested for decades and remained on top for years. The world is just catching up.

  12. No, the managing is not what it used to be. The ability to spot talent and put in the best player. The women's program is so cliquey. There are players on the squad I don't even know how they even got called up (i can guess) while there are women who should be called up, but simply aren't (again I can guess.)
Twila had the 11 she decided not to put them together. She put together what I have to say was the worst group of girls in that ridiculous stuffed up 4-2-3-1 to face a formidable Mexican team. Then her substitutions were completely mistimed and off base. She has no business managing the senior national squad. Emma can't come soon enough.

  13. Honestly as a USA fan this was embarrassing I know it was going to be a hard game like USA wins by one or something but no USA winning there and just didn't look prepared USA look lost like a deer and headlights

  14. As soon as the traditional footballing powerhouses started to invest in women's football and their leagues, it was always gonna be a matter of time before the USA got surpassed by a few nations. Its no surprise really. They will now have to be content with being round of 16 and quarter final contendants. Theyre gonna be the equivalent of Uruguay in the mens: won WCs while the sport was still in nappies, but became mid level once everyone else got serious about it.

  15. It’s good for women’s soccer, bad for USA. Countries are investing more into the women’s game. Competition is definitely welcome. Needs it for sport to grow. And it’ll push American to change their program.

  16. Yes, Mexico blew the US off the field.
US Soccer has started doing something about it. It's a shame they didn't start after the last Olympics. Matt Crocker got hired about a year ago. Emma Hayes hasn't arrived yet. They have young players and a few OG's. The media is overblowing it a bit. It's all about clicks.

  17. The coach is terrible to let some young player playing selfish without passing and most of them like to make long shoot distance…they thought they are Messi 😂 …we need our Vet back to this team
